Specification 35 Modelling profiles for J1V3

Specification 35 Modelling profiles for J1V3

This Specification contains modelling profiles as referenced in S34C3(6)(g).

To prescribe the operation profiles that may be used in the modelling required by S34C3(6)(g).

(1) The air-conditioning, must be modelled on the basis of—

  1. the daily occupancy and operation profiles in Tables S35C2a, S35C2b, S35C2c, S35C2d, S35C2e, S35C2f, S35C2g, S35C2h, S35C2i, S35C2j and S35C2k; and
  2. the internal heat gains in a building—
    1. from occupants and hot meals, in accordance with one of the options in Table S35C2n; and
    2. from appliances and equipment, in accordance with Table S35C2l; and
    3. from artificial lighting, determined in accordance with (2).

(2) The artificial lighting, must be modelled on the basis of the proposed level of artificial lighting in the building with the daily profile in Tables S35C2a, S35C2b, S35C2c, S35C2d, S35C2e, S35C2f, S35C2g, S35C2h, S35C2i, S35C2j and S35C2k.

(3) The heated water supply, must be modelled on the basis of the consumption rates of Table S35C2m.

Table Notes
  1. The occupancy profile is expressed as a percentage of the maximum number of people that can be accommodated in the building.
  2. The artificial lighting profile is expressed as a percentage of the maximum illumination power density permitted under Part J7.
  3. The appliances and equipment profile is expressed as a percentage of the maximum internal heat gain in S35C2l.
  4. The air-conditioning profile is expressed as the plant status.
  5. Saturday and Sunday profiles are 5% continuous artificial lighting and 5% continuous appliances and equipment, where there is no occupancy and the air-conditioning is “off”.

Table S35C2n Internal heat gains for occupants and hot meals
Application Internal heat gains per person
Dining room, restaurant or cafe 80 W sensible heat gain and 80 W latent heat gain
The average adjusted metabolic rate for sedentary work from Table 45 of AIRAH-DA09
The heat emission rate for sedentary work from Table 6.3 of CIBSE Guide A
Other applications 75 W sensible heat gain and 55 W latent heat gain
An average adjusted metabolic rate from Table 45 of AIRAH-DA09

Table Notes
  1. The number of people must be calculated in accordance with D2D18.
  2. For a dining room, restaurant or cafe, the internal heat gains per person account for heat gains from both occupants and hot meals.
  3. For other applications, the internal heat gains per person only account for heat gains from occupants.

To prescribe the operation profiles for air-conditioning, artificial lighting, and equipment and appliances that may be used to model the proposed and reference building.

This specification sets out standard operation profiles for calculating the annual energy consumption, and hence annual greenhouse gas emissions, of a proposed and reference building. It provides various options in Table S35C2n to account for heat gains per person and where applicable, heat gains from meals. The number of people must be calculated in accordance with D2D18.

Although the values stated may not be those actually achieved in some buildings, the values are derived from industry accepted data sources and are considered the most typical. The same rates apply for the proposed building and reference building under J1V2 and J1V3.

They do not have to be used as part of the Verification Methods provided the operating hours of the building per year used in the calculation are not less than 2,500 hours. The profiles in the NABERS Energy and Green Star simulation requirements can also be used (see S34C3(6)(g)).
