The final consultation in response to the Building Confidence Report (BCR) is now open.

Recommendation 19 of the BCR is that each jurisdiction requires registered fire safety practitioners to design, install and certify the fire safety systems necessary in commercial buildings.

In response to this recommendation, the BCR Implementation Team has developed a discussion paper and is seeking stakeholder feedback on what should be included in the national model guidance.

The discussion paper is presented as five principles, which are considered fundamental to the installation, testing, certification and maintenance of fire safety systems.

Responses to the consultation will inform the national model guidance which will be presented to, and considered by, Building Ministers towards the end of the year.

The Australian Building Codes Board would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has provided valuable input to any of the 13 consultations undertaken in response to the BCR over the past 18 months. Your feedback is integral in continuing to shape robust regulatory and compliance systems for Australia’s construction industry.
