Revised or amended documents that are not referenced in the NCC, but have been accepted as being suitable for referencing in a future edition of the NCC, may be suitable for consideration as part of a Performance Solution.
2019 marked the introduction of the first edition of the NCC produced following the move from an annual to a three-year amendment cycle. The next scheduled edition of the NCC is due in 2022.
The NCC itself does not contain details of every design and construction requirement for a building or plumbing or drainage system. As such, the NCC calls upon or “references” other documents with this information. These are called NCC referenced documents.
The majority of NCC referenced documents, such as Australian Standards, form part of the Deemed-to-Satisfy Provisions of the NCC. Therefore, use of a version of a document other than the one referenced in the NCC requires the use of a Performance Solution.

The ABCB promotes revised or amended documents that are not referenced in the NCC, but have been accepted as being suitable for referencing in a future edition of the NCC, and therefore may be suitable for consideration as part of a Performance Solution.
Remember, practitioners have choices about which NCC compliance path they wish to follow, but are responsible for demonstrating compliance through adequate documentation of the Assessment Methods used.
The ABCB’s Building Codes Committee and/or Plumbing Code Committee has agreed to the following documents as being suitable for referencing in the 2022 edition of the NCC. In the interim, these documents may be considered for use as part of a Performance Solution.

- Amendment 1 to AS 1720.5:2015, Timber structures - Nailplated timber roof trusses
