Getting your head around the National Construction Code (NCC) might seem a bit daunting, but there are a number of ways you can get help with using the code.

NCC assistance

The NCC contains sections that will assist you in understanding how to use it:

  • The Guide the Volume One
  • The Governing Requirements of each Volume

Resource Library

To help you understand and apply the code, the Australian Building Codes Board (ABCB) regularly publishes resources such as handbooks, guides, case studies and videos to help you along the way.

Just head to the ABCB resource library where you can search by topic, area of interest or for a specific item.

State and territory administrations

While the NCC is developed and maintained by the ABCB, responsibility for the application and regulation of the code lies with each state and territory government. You can find your state regulator here. In some areas, these functions may be undertaken by your local government.

Industry associations

There are a number of industry associations across the construction sector which may be able to provide advice in relation to your enquiry. Depending on the nature of the enquiry an industry association may be able to assist you.

Building certifiers

For site specific advice or assistance regarding your building project a building certifier may be able to assist with your enquiry.

Submit an enquiry with the ABCB

The ABCB resource library may provide a quick answer to your enquiry.

Please note that the ABCB is only able to provide advice on the meaning or application of the NCC. We are not able to answer project specific questions.
